QRI Research Note
Weekly Bitcoin Quantum Index Update: June 29, 2026
As of June 29, 2026, Quantum Risk Institute continues to rate the Bitcoin Quantum Index at 12 / 100. Status remains LOW and Bitcoin Status remains SAFE.
What changed this week?
No public evidence reviewed this week justifies moving the Bitcoin Quantum Index above 12. Public quantum computing continues to make meaningful research progress, especially around error correction, hardware scaling, and quantum systems engineering, but no public demonstration indicates capability to threaten Bitcoin signatures.
Current signals
Public estimates are not yet Bitcoin-relevant.
Progress is important, but long cryptographic circuits remain out of reach.
No modern Bitcoin-scale public key break is public.
The practical public risk remains low.
Why the score stayed at 12
The score remains above 10 because public research has moved beyond purely theoretical discussions. It remains far below 50 because the field has not publicly demonstrated the logical scale, error-correction reliability, or public-key cryptanalysis required to threaten deployed systems.
What QRI will watch next
- Public demonstrations of larger and more stable logical qubits.
- Error-corrected logical gates that clearly outperform physical gates.
- Improved quantum LDPC, surface-code, and bosonic-code progress.
- Credible modular scaling across chips, traps, photonic links, or cryostats.
- Any public key break that moves beyond toy demonstrations.
